To sketch free hand.....make only shadow area dark then smudge or blend through hand or paper or cottan. you'll get the rough sketch.....after that erase the areas where you want to make hilight.........
best thing of this free hand technique is you can change hilight and shadow while sketching... because lines dont used in this technique.
